I’ve not seen Barcelona, Real Madrid do what Chelsea did – Steven Gerrard

Former Liverpool midfielder, Steven Gerrard has noted that no other team, not even Real Madrid or Barcelona had done to Atletico Madrid what Chelsea did to them in the Champions League day-two on Wednesday.

Gerrard observed that the Blues dominated the usually watertight Atleti defence.

The English Champions came back in the second half after entering the break 1-0 down to Antoine Griezmann’s penalty.

Alvaro Morata equalized for Chelsea near the hour mark, before Michy Batshuayi sealed a 2-1 Champions League triumph at the Wanda Metropolitana.

Gerrard told BT Sport, “I’ve not seen Barcelona or Real Madrid do that to Atletico…”

Chelsea “tore them apart,” says Steven Gerrard.

He added, “To be fair to Chelsea, that’s the first time I’ve seen this Atletico Madrid defensive unit get torn apart.

“I’ve never seen a team, even Real Madrid and Barcelona, I’ve never seen those two sides, who are the best in the world, do that to an Atletico Madrid team.

“So it was some performance.”
Antonio Conte’s men now lead the Group A on six points, scoring eight goals and conceding just one.
