Why Arsenal smashed transfer record for Lacazette – Wenger.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has revealed exactly what he saw in Alexandre Lacazette, which made him sanction a club record £52million deal for the player.

The 26-year-old has signed for the Gunners from Lyon on a five-year contract. His bumper £200,000-per-week deal, will make him the top earner at the Emirates.

“We are very happy to have Alexandre join our group.

“He has shown over a number of years that he can score goals and that he is a very efficient finisher. As well, he has very interesting technical qualities and a strong character.

“He is a guy who is a great addition for us, and someone who will help us challenge at the top level this season,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

Lacazette becomes the latest Frenchman to lead the line for the Gunners, following in the footsteps of Nicolas Anelka, Sylvain Wiltord, Olivier Giroud and club legend Thierry Henry.

The 26-year-old is delighted to have finally secured his "dream" move to north London and is determined to win titles in his debut season in English football.

"I want to give one hundred per cent in every match," Lacazette told the club's official website. "I want to show I'm worthy of the shirt. I want to do everything I can to make sure we win titles."

"I am, of course, delighted and very proud too because Arsenal is a legendary club," Lacazette added.

"Throughout my childhood, thanks to Thierry Henry and other French players, I always dreamed of playing for this club so today that dream has been fulfilled."
