Liverpool drop Coutinho for Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim

Philippe Coutinho is not among the Liverpool players travelling to Germany, for Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer.

And last week, Coutinho took a step in trying to force the transfer, by sumbitting a transfer request by email.

The playmaker missed Saturday’s Premier League opener, due to a back problem picked up in pre-season. And Jurgen Klopp has chosen to leave him out of the Red’s 22-man squad for the first leg of the tie.

Liverpool’s squad for the match: Alexander-Arnold, Moreno, Lovren, Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Can, Mane, Salah, Firmino, Kent, Solanke, Origi, Gomez, Klavan, Flanagan, Robertson, Matip, Grujic, Mignolet, Karius, Ward.
